Hawks 2 recognised for fantastic season

The senior Hawks 2 team, playing in Division 3 of the North West Leicestershire Netball League, bagged a clean sweep of awards at the NWL gala dinner, celebrating the end of the season at a Peaky Blinders themed event.

The team won Best Defence, with just 309 goals conceded all season, in no small part helped by Katherine Whatton who picked up overall MVP in division 3 for her outstanding job at GD.

Not to be outdone, the attack end also took the Best Attack award, scoring 549 goals in total.

With stats taking them to the top of the table by some margin, they also took winners of the Division, earning them promotion to Division 2 next season.

But these weren’t the only mentions for the club – Celine Li picked up a personal award for all her hard work in achieving the England Netball umpiring B award, the only NWL umpire to do so this season.

The surprise of the night came at the final award. Hawks Netball Club were honoured to be given a special award – the Val Kindred Netball Development Award. This annual award is given to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the development and promotion of netball across the community. Hawks Netball Club are the first club rather than individual to be given this accolade, and it truly has been a total club effort to deliver “Netball for All” in our 20th anniversary year. A huge thanks to the support of members, parents, friends and family in participating in all our fundraising, community events and activities.

A big thanks also to the NWL committee for all their hard work putting on a great event and running such a well organised league and season.
